How to Join Us

A Simple, Supported Process

Joining Kneller Hall School is straightforward and our Admissions team is here every step of the way to answer questions, guide you through the process and ensure that your family feels welcome long before your child’s first day.

Step 1: Make an Enquiry

Your journey begins with a conversation. Contact our dedicated admissions team or complete our online enquiry form [insert link] and our team will get back to you swiftly with answers to any questions and to arrange an opportunity for you to come and visit the school.

Step 2: Visit Us

We strongly encourage every family to visit us before applying. You can join an Open Day or a personal tour arranged at a time to suit you. The best way to understand what makes Kneller Hall School different is to experience it.

Whole School Open Day – Saturday 3rd October

Join us for a day of discovery on the banks of the Thames. Our Junior School team hosts an Open Day Carnival at Pope’s Villa, Twickenham, while our Senior School team welcomes visitors to Twickenham Stadium for a subject fair and a walking tour of the Kneller Hall grounds.
Come and see what makes us different — meet our teachers, explore our facilities, and get a real feel for life at Kneller Hall.

Step 3: Register Your Child

To proceed with your application, you’ll need to complete our online registration form. You will be asked to provide your child’s most recent school report, proof of identity and any relevant supporting documentation.

(Registration does not guarantee an offer of a place.)

Step 4: How we assess

All applicants take part in an age-appropriate assessment to help us understand each child’s academic profile and any support they might benefit from. A meeting or interview with a senior member of staff also forms part of the process.

  • Junior School: activity morning / taster session
  • Year 7 (11+)& Year 9 (13+): English & Maths academic assessment
  • Sixth Form (Year 12): interview + GCSE results; predicted grades for early offers
  • Occasional places (any year group): CAT4 cognitive assessment + school reports

Step 5: Offer of a Place

Following the assessment, we will confirm the outcome of your application. We offer places to pupils who we believe will be happy, engaged and ready to make the most of everything Kneller Hall School has to offer.

Junior School Entry

Entry to Kneller Hall Junior School runs from Reception through to Year 6, with places offered on a rolling basis as they become available. Many of our youngest pupils join us from Dukes Education nurseries, though we’re just as glad to welcome families joining us for the first time. As part of the process, families visit the Junior School and their child takes part in an age-appropriate activity morning or taster session, alongside a meeting with a senior member of staff — giving us time to get to know each child’s character, curiosity and readiness to join our community, not just a single snapshot. Our Admissions team is with you every step of the way, from first enquiry to your child’s first day.

Year 7 Entry (11+)

There are three routes into Year 7:

A. The All-Through Pathway — Kneller Hall Junior School pupils

Pupils already at Kneller Hall Junior School move up to Year 7 without sitting the external 11+. Staff monitor progress, attainment and pastoral development throughout the prep years, so by Year 7 they already have a full picture of each child. Offers are normally made in the autumn term of Year 6, ahead of external offers; registration is required but the fee is waived for Junior School pupils, and a deposit is payable once a place is accepted by the stated deadline.

B. The Dukes Education Prep Pathway — Assured Progression

Pupils at any Dukes Education prep school — not just Kneller Hall’s own Junior School — can apply for a Kneller-assured place up to two years in advance, without normally needing to sit an external 11+. Progress and pastoral development are monitored throughout the prep years, though progression isn’t automatic and remains subject to suitability, space, and the School’s ability to meet each child’s needs. Registration (with the standard fee) is required, and offers are normally made in the autumn term of Year 6, ahead of external offers. A deposit is payable on acceptance by the stated deadline; existing Dukes Education deposits may be transferred where applicable.

C. External Applicants

For families joining us from outside Dukes Education, the process is straightforward and transparent. After registering online (with a non-refundable fee), applicants sit entrance assessments in English and Mathematics, and those meeting the required standard may be invited to a second-stage ‘Beyond the Classroom’ activity. Alongside current school reports and references, decisions weigh overall performance, suitability, cohort balance and place availability. Offers are typically issued in early February ahead of September entry, with acceptances due by the stated deadline.

Year 7 Entry Timeline 2027

Year 9 Entry (13+)

Applications from both external and Dukes Education pupils are considered through the same process. Applicants complete baseline academic assessments, followed by a meeting to discuss suitability for the GCSE curriculum and subject options; where appropriate, offers may be made in advance of entry. Scholarships may also be available, subject to additional assessment.

Year 12 Entry (16+)

Registration is required, along with a non-refundable registration fee. Applicants submit a personal statement, school report and predicted GCSE grades — normally a minimum of seven GCSEs at Grade 6 or above, including English and Mathematics, with Grade 7 or above typically required for subject-specific entry. As part of the process, applicants attend an interview alongside a review of GCSE results, with predicted grades considered where offers are made early; offers remain conditional on final GCSE results and subject to availability, with a deposit required upon acceptance.

See the Year 12 Entry Timeline 2027 for full dates.

Please note we are unable to accept applications for Years 11 or 13.

We are committed to a fair and accessible admissions process. Access arrangements, such as extra time or use of a laptop, can be provided for applicants with a diagnosed need. Please speak to our Admissions team at the point of enquiry so that appropriate provision can be put in place from the outset.
